Holy F**k!
Almost four years ago I went to a concert of this Canadian combo I had never heard of before. A good friend just ‘forced’ me to join – and the night became huge fun …
Seeing Düsseldorf’s most wanted newcomers Stabil Elite performing live a couple of days ago really reminded me on that band in a way:
“Holy Fuck is a Canadian electronica band from Toronto. (…) The band uses live instrumentation and miscellaneous instruments and non-instruments (including a 35 mm film synchronizer, toy keyboards and toy phaser guns) to achieve electronic-sounding effects without the use of laptops or programmed backing tracks. According to Pitchfork Media, ‘The band was formed with the intent of creating the equivalent of modern electronic music without actually using the techniques – looping, splicing, programming and the like – of that music.’ ” (Source: Wikipedia)
We had the great luck to see them perform in a very small club – improvising a lot and turning the hell out of some knobs. The warm analogue sound in combination with some tight and complex beats (amazing drummer!) really created a high level of great and pushing energy.
And they kept on improvising – even after the end of the show …
Due to the fact that there was no kind of merchandising at all, Brian Borcherdt just took a pen and created this wonderful explicit and unique fan-shirt for a good friend of mine:
So I really hope to see Holy Fuck live again. Soon. Not only because I also want such a shirt …
